HOW TO TAKE THE CHALLENGE OUT OF
UPLOADING PAGES TO YOUR WEB-SITE USING FRONTPAGE 98

When you are ready to publish your web-site to the Internet we suggest the following procedure. Although FrontPage provides a Publish option we have found that trying to upload your  FrontPage web in this manner can be a very frustrating experience. One of the biggest challenges in using the Publish feature is that  FrontPage often publishes your files back to you hard drive instead of the Internet. If you will follow this simple step by step process we know that you will find maintaining your web-site with FrontPage can be a hassle free experience.

Before you begin you will need to first establish a connection to the Internet, then open FrontPage Explorer throught the Windows Start menu.

STEP ONE

Go to the File option and select Open FrontPage Web.

STEP TWO

The following screen appears. Click on the More Webs option.

STEP 3

Type the name of your domain (your domain.com - omit the www) in the Select a Web server or disk location: options box, then click on the List Webs button. Alternately you can your sites IP address.

STEP 4

FrontPage will search the internet and connect to your site. Once this is complete FrontPage will display this screen. Most likely the FrontPage Webs found at location: box will read <Root Web> click on the OK button.

STEP 5

Next you will be prompted to enter your username, normally your web-site domain name without the period i.e. yourdomaincom, and password. Then click on the OK button.

Step 6

If you have entered your user name and password correctly you will see the following screen which is the root directory of your web-site. You are now conncected with your web-site and ready to begin uploading your web pages and images to the site.

STEP 7

Going back to the File menu select the Import option.

STEP 8

The following screen appears.Click  the on the Add File button to begin selecting the files you want to upload to your web-site.

STEP 9

The Add File to Import List screen allows you to select the files from your local hard drive that you want to upload to your web-site. Use the navigation controls to move to the directory where you files are stored.

Select the file you wish to upload. You can select multiple files by holding down the shift key. Once you have finished your selection click on open and the selected file will appear in the import screen. Once you have selected all the files you wish to place on your web-site click okay and the file(s) will be uploaded to the server. If you want to upload a whole directory select the add folder option, select the folder you want to upload and click okay. The folder will appear in the import screen and you can the click on okay to upload to the server. Once this is done you will see the files you uploaded display in FrontPage Explorer. You have successfully posted your web-site to the Internet and you should open a web browers and begin checking out your site on the web.
